Tips for Staying Motivated Through the New Year
Heading into February, you may feel the renewed motivation from the New Year start to fade. New Year’s resolutions can be tough to keep, and if you break one, it’s easy to lose all motivation. As small business owners ourselves, Kelly and I know that staying on top of everyday tasks and keeping track of our goals can get exhausting. So we’ve decided to provide some helpful tips for staying motivated throughout the year.
1) Set realistic goals.
Setting goals is a very important step to growing your business, but they only work if they are realistic. Review what you accomplished last year, and set a goal that improves upon it. For instance, if you sold 10 products a month, aim for 12 a month this year. The increase is small, but over time, it will add up!
2) Find someone to keep you accountable.
Ever try to start an exercise routine and end up giving it up after a week because you’re doing it alone? (We’ve all been there!) Having someone do it with you makes you more accountable. In business, it’s the same principle. Whether it’s your spouse, friend, or business partner, find someone who can check in on you and keep you on top of your goals.
3) Remember why you started your business.
When times are tough, it’s tempting to consider giving it all up. The best way to stay motivated is to remind yourself why you’re doing what you do. Did you start your business to help people? To have flexibility, to be your own boss? So that you can spend more time with family? Reflect on why you started your business, and I guarantee you’ll find your motivation again.
4) Don’t let failures get you down.
Failure is inevitable. Sometimes things will slip through the cracks, it happens. Don’t let them get you down, don’t let them stop you from pursuing your goals. Remind yourself it’s not the end of the world, and reflect on what happened—what went wrong? What can I do differently to prevent this from happening again? Learn from it! Failures can be the best teachers.
Staying motivated can be tough, but by following these tips, you’ll ace motivation sooner than you think!
